Verily, In The Remembrance Of Allah Do Hearts Find Rest
And whosoever puts his trust in Allah, then He will suffice him
Allah has made for us an excellent example in Prophet Ibrahim and those who were with him. As a young man, he was guided by Allah and stayed away from idol worshipping despite how prevalent it was then. He then sought to bring his people to guidance but they refused. This led him to plot against the idols they worshipped so they could see that they can neither benefit nor harm them. He destroyed the idols while they were away for a festival and made it obvious to them that the idols cannot even defend themselves or talk if asked about what happened.
However, the people did not receive guidance from this but decided to punish him by setting up a big fire and throwing him inside. This was one of the major tests for Ibrahim from Allah, but he did not falter. Rather he said; hasbunallahu wa ni’mal Wakeel (Allah is Sufficient for us, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs.)
Thus, Allah commanded the fire to be cool - comfortably and safely for him. Indeed, whosoever puts his trust in Allah, He will suffice him.
After the event, he left his people and followed the guidance of Allah. Many years after he has been delivering the message of Allah that he was sent, he was subjected to another trial from his Lord. He was inspired to offer his son - whom he had at an old age, as a sacrifice to Allah. However, he did not question the Will of Allah. He and his son submitted totally and did as they were commanded.
Thus, Allah called unto him that it was a trial for him, and he had fulfilled it. Allah then ransomed him with a great sacrifice – a ram, and left for him a good remembrance among generations.
Brethren in Islam, take a moment to reflect on these two, out of many other, tests that our father was subjected to. Whatever difficulties or calamities or trials from Allah you might be facing, which of them is at par or greater than any of the two described above?
When Calamity Befalls, Remember Allah
“No calamity befalls, but by the Leave - Divine Preordainments, of Allah, and whosoever believes in Allah, He guides his heart [to the true Faith with certainty, i.e. what has befallen him was already written for him by Allah from the Qadar (Divine Preordainments)]. And Allah is the All-Knower of everything.” Al Qur’an, 64:11
Thus, when you are faced with calamities or trials, remember that they are from Allah and it is only Him that can help you overcome them. That is the only way your mind can be at rest. If you choose to do otherwise, you will only put yourself in unnecessary trouble at the end of which you will not be able to surpass the Will of Allah. And if, God forbid, you go against the Commandments of Allah into His Prohibitions, then it will be a loss for you in this world, and a greater loss in the hereafter.
Brethren in Islam, be among the believers whom Allah has described as “those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah - Islamic Monotheism), and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of and reliance on Allah.”
The Affairs of a Muslim are Always Good
Prophet Muhammad was reported to have said: “How wonderful is the affair of the believer, for his affairs are all good, and this applies to no one but the believer. If something good happens to him, he is thankful for it and that is good for him. If something bad happens to him, he bears it with patience and that is good for him.” (Narrated by Muslim, 2999).
Thus, you should have no worry as a believer in Allah at all, and therefore not to the extent that you leave the Obedience of Allah and move into His Prohibitions just to acquire the bounties or avert the calamities of this worldly life. Know that every other thing that you rely on asides from Allah will not be able to protect you or grant your wish except by the Will of Allah. Will you then leave the One who can help you and seek help from the one who cannot even help himself?
I understand how hard it can be in the moment, but no calamity is worthy of you going against the Dictates of Allah and losing the hereafter if you truly believe in Allah. There is no bounty worth seeking in this life that should make you lose the hereafter.
Respected brethren in Islam, let’s take the lesson from Prophet Ibrahim and make it deeply rooted in our hearts that;
"Nothing shall ever happen to us except what Allah has ordained for us. He is our Maulaa (Lord, Helper and Protector). And in Allah let the believers put their trust.” Al Qur’an, 9:51
May Allah make our feet firm upon the path of righteousness.
